“Comparisons with the loose country rock purveyed by The Band are easy to make when hearing this double A-side from last year's winners of the Glastonbury Unsigned band competition. No side sweep haircut-sporting, angular guitar rifts here, just good time rock & roll – yes'siree. ”

“Glastonbury competition winners, the five piece Deadbeats produce a sound that is kind of a blend of Byrds /Allman Brothers /Lynyrd Skynryd on the two songs that make up this single. Intersting and exciting stuff. www.thedeadbeatsonlin.com”

“This debut single from last year's Glastonbury Unsigned winners is an infectious, folk-infused gem.”

**** “THEY may hail from Manchester, but The Deadbeats are actually a fairly tasty cocktail of American influences. Their debut single starts with a few California keys, Beach Boys-style, before hitting the listener with a rock ‘n' roll rythm, some garage rock guitar and a smooth shot of whisky-soaked blues vocals. Think Neil Young jamming with Kings of Leon and the Zutons while Bo Diddley lays down some sweet guitar. Promising stuff."

“ Winners of the Glastonbury unsigned competition in 2005 (a privilege previously bestowed on The Subways and Blackbud) it's been a long time coming for The Deadbeats to launch their assault on the public's psyche. Thankfully their great debut single, ‘Backdoor Honey' , is finally here. Despite the somewhat debased connotations of the title (ahem), it's an upbeat, country-rock tinged foot-stomper and truly perfect for the summer months ahead. Admittedly, it's doesn't quite capture the visceral exuberance of their live shows, but the riotous pace, frontman Sam Hammond's Kings of Leon–esque, weathered vocals and piano loops make it a damn fine listen. The more restrained ‘Cat Got The Cream' with its lilting harmonies and highly Americanised lines “She'll be giving you a heart attack, she'll be riding in your Cadillac”, is a tad less impressive, but still decent enough.”

“Knockabout skiffle from happy Mancs who sound like they're sound-tracking a chase sequence in shameless. 6/10”

“This is a little Hillbilly, foot stopping goodness from The Deadbeats. The lead singer has a voice sounding a little like Bob Dylan. However, the songs are very repetitive, and a little predictable. But they are radio friendly, and ooze fun and frolicking. If you're keen on the blues (which everyone should be), you should give this band a listen.”

“There are few bands that get this whole retrospective deal. The Deadbeats however embrace the whole vibrancy and tuneful superiority of the 70's. “Backdoor Honey” is kind of how I'd like the Kings Of Leon to sound if they'd only been sensible on all fronts (trousers, hair, vocals, tunes and authenticity). Piano, guitar, bass and drums are all swinging in perfect time and harmony as Sam Hammonds voice just shines out over such a perfect canvas. All sorts of soundbites are spread over both tracks from the blue(grass)s to transatlantic folk, but there's this semi-psychedelic fever to the single that slices in the rock sensibilities of Free, the melodic charm of The Small Faces and...well it just gets too hard to make direct comparisons - which is a nice dilemma . You probably couldn't obtain a more genuine sounding article without the aid of something like a Tardis and yet there's this wise modernity to both songs. Seek out. “

“Stopping just short of a total hoedown, ‘Backdoor Honey' is a breakneck folksy jam of gusto, surpassing the homespun charms of The Coral or The La's with a rustic flavour of The Deadbeats' own. Anybody who has moseyed on down to one of their gigs will know of The Deadbeats' countrified vibrancy and on record, it's no different – catchy rock-alongs that touch the Americana influence in a similar manner to that of a jangly Kings Of Leon . Backed with the ramshackle ‘Cat Got The Cream', these Manchester based boys flaunt at how effectively simple they can be. This single isn't quite the full-on anthem that The Deadbeats will eventually come up good with, but so far as turning some heads to their refreshing, outdoorsy sound, it will do just nicely .”
